Master the Art of Mistake-Making

Yes, really—there’s an art to it!

We’ve all heard it a million times:
“Learn from your mistakes!”
And at this point—it’s practically background noise. My students have perfected the eye-roll response every time I say it.

But before you roll your eyes too hard, think back to any time you learned literally anything:
~Roller skating as a kid?
~Learning to swim?
~Figuring out a new game?
~Picking up an instrument as an adult?
~Trying not to burn your first omelet?

You knew you were going to mess up. And guess what? You survived. In fact, you probably even laughed about it.

So why, oh why, when it comes to learning a language, do so many people suddenly freeze up and get embarrassed the moment they make a mistake?

Listen—when I was learning English, I was tripping over words left and right, and I didn’t care one bit. Because here’s the secret:
Mistakes = Movement.
They’re signs you’re taking risks, stretching your skills, and yes—actually learning. 🎉

I remind my students all the time:
👉 Mistakes aren’t failure.
👉 They’re feedback.
👉 They point out where to focus next.

So go ahead—mispronounce a word, mix up a verb tense, ask that awkward question. It means you’re doing the work.

Make mistakes proudly. Correct them wisely. Repeat.
That’s how fluency is forged.
